Barn Crescent

Picture
Our first site, planted in March and December 2012.

A secluded spot behind houses, popular with dog walkers heading out to the fields on Round Hill. A site steeped in history - Round Hill was the site of heavy fighting during the First Battle of Newbury in 1643.

Of the 17 trees, 10 are local Berkshire varieties.

In April 2021 we planted 13 more fruit trees, including 2 pears, 2 plums and a damson with a small group of volunteers in 4 sessions.

Many thanks to those who came along so we could finish the first phase of Lockdown Wood, which is a Newbury Friends of the Earth project l to create three woods in the district as living memorials to the traumas of the coronavirus pandemic. You can find out more by searching for Lockdown Wood on Facebook or go to https://www.newburyfoe.co.uk/lockdownwoods.
